How would you best describe your organisation and its values?
Colchester Borough Council provides a range of services to its 183,000 population. Its values are to place shape the borough; provide the leadership for sustainable development; to enhance the life chances of some of our residents and improve the quality of life of people in our communities.
When did your organisation begin and how has it evolved to date?
Colchester Borough Council is a District Council created in 1974 providing a large range of public sector services to its residents, businesses and visitors. It has also embraced commercialism by creating new companies to deliver income to the Borough Council in order to deal with the public sector austerity measures.
How big is the organisation now?
CBC employs over 1000 people and has a net budget of approximately £40 million.
How do you see your organisation evolving over the next five years?
CBC has ambitious plans for the development of Colchester. It will work with businesses to deliver on those ambitions and accommodate the increase in population in a sustainable manner.
What are the advantages of being a Colchester-based organisation?
Colchester is uniquely placed for businesses to be based here as it has excellent connectivity in all senses of the word and has such a rich mix of offerings for businesses and their staff.
